We can’t change the world unless we imagine what a better world might look like.

What happens when residents, community development folks, housing advocates, activists, artists, and government officials unite creatively and openly to address the questions:

  • Where will we live when we are old?

  • Where will we live when the place we call home is no longer habitable?

  • What if we use art to influence housing policy?

Along the side walk in front of a sky blue building are a row of tents and chairs belonging to an unhoused community. On the building is a multicolor sign that says, "love thy neighbor as thyself."

To change policies, we must change culture. We use the power of creativity, art, and story to imagine a different and beautiful future.

Mark-n-Sparks partners with the people and institutions who want to integrate arts-based problem-solving into civic society. Creative facilitation, performance, workshops, training, and community engagement are some of the methods we use to spark the civic imagination needed to solve complex social justice and policy issues.

While our civic problems keep getting bigger and bigger, our solutions are incremental. We will require an audacious leap of imagination to bridge the gap between what we are doing and what we need to do. To achieve this, we concentrate work on three areas:

  • We co-create performances and installations to help people get their heads around hard-to-grasp social and political issues. If issues are easier to understand, they are easier to address. Learn More

  • Collaborating with organizations, campaigns, and networks to co-create transformative solutions. Learn more

  • Professional development for advocates, government staff, students, and activists. Learn more
